Each year, road accidents resulted in a total of 1.24 million people lost their lives and injuries between 20 and 50 million people worldwide. Road accidents have been identified as the eighth leading cause of death and a leading cause of death among young people between the ages of 15 to 29 years. According to the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) motorcyclists and youths contribute to the highest fatality rate in road accidents in Malaysia.

In an effort to address the issue of road accidents, the government through the relevant agencies have been designing and implementing various road safety initiatives such as road safety education, highly enforcement of road safety laws etc.
