Fire at Home? What to Do?
Fire safety education must be taught at a very early age to children so that they understand the dangers of fire. Small steps can save lives. Most people do not really bother much about fire safety, thinking that such incidents won’t happen to them. Some people also think they can always call the fire department.
Safe Kids Malaysia (SKM) is dedicated for protecting children from preventable injuries. It was established in 2011 as a member of Safe Kids Worldwide (SKW) and in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti of Putra Malaysia (UPM). Based on their research, they found out that fires and burns are serious public health issues that demand our attention.
In their report, 54% of parents reported that their child suffered at least one form of burn injury in the past two years and 6.4% of parents reported there had been a fire in their home in the past two years.only 1 in 3 parents say they consistently teach their kids about fire safety. As a conclusion, it shows a need to educate children and encourage more parents to reinforce key safety messages at home.
